Todd Matteson serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor of Art at the University of Evansville. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Evansville (1995), a Master of Arts in Ceramics from Purdue University (2002), and a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from Kansas State University (2006). Born in Washington, Indiana, Matteson began his academic journey at UE as an undeclared major before focusing on art. He worked as a studio assistant under Professor Les Miley at UE from 1997 to 1999. After earning his MA, he served as Adjunct Instructor at Ivy Tech State College and Ceramics Instructor and Studio Technician at the West Lafayette Museum of Art. During his MFA studies, he taught as an adjunct instructor at Washburn University.
Matteson's first full-time faculty position was at Lourdes University from 2006 to 2015, where he progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and chaired the Art Department during his final three years, overseeing Pre-Art Therapy, Studio Arts, and Art History programs. At Lourdes, he was elected Faculty Senate representative and subcommittee chair, and held officer positions in the Toledo Federation of the Arts Society, served on the Sylvania Arts Commission, and was a board member for other Toledo-area art organizations. Returning to the University of Evansville in 2015, he teaches Ceramics, Sculpture, and Foundation courses. His ceramic artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally, receiving numerous awards, including selections such as 'The Archer' in the 2020 Working Together exhibit. Matteson contributes to university governance as a member of Faculty Senate subcommittees on Fiscal Affairs and Promotion and Tenure, the Education Advisory Council and its Curriculum Committee for Art Education. He is a member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), the International Ceramic Arts Network, and the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. As advisor to the UE Clay Club, he organizes community events like the annual Chili Bowl Sale to support the local food bank.
