Dr. Tarin Ong is the Assistant Dean (Learning and Teaching) and a Lecturer in Psychology, Criminology, and Counselling at Murdoch University Singapore. A registered Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 22 years of experience in mental health and higher education, she holds a Doctorate in Education from Nanyang Technological University. In her leadership capacity, Dr. Ong spearheads strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching quality, maintaining rigorous academic standards, and fostering student success across the Singapore campus. Her portfolio includes the oversight of academic integrity, professional development for lecturers, and the development of comprehensive academic support and transition programs tailored to student needs. She serves ex-officio as the Singapore Assistant Dean for Learning and Teaching on the Singapore Academic Board.
Dr. Ong provides coaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students on academic skills, learning strategies, research and academic integrity, personal effectiveness, and well-being. She conducts English language proficiency tests for prospective students and manages investigations into academic misconduct to uphold Murdoch University's core values. Responsible for teaching quality assurance, she performs classroom observations and delivers bespoke training for new and existing affiliate lecturers covering student support services, assessments, examinations, feedback, technology-enabled learning strategies, and the learning management system. In her teaching across psychology, criminology, and counselling, Dr. Ong integrates professional practice with disciplinary theory to prepare students for ethical and effective professional roles in diverse settings. Her research centres on inclusive education and student participation, psychological well-being and resilience, and digital engagement and its impact on learning and mental health. Additionally, she contributes to the editorial team of the Journal of Applied Learning and Teaching.
