Ms Tanya Simmonds is a Lecturer in Physiotherapy within the School of Allied Health and Human Performance, College of Health at Adelaide University. She obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy (Honours) from the University of South Australia in 1992. Following graduation, she worked for many years in Melbourne, Victoria, before returning to Adelaide. Her clinical experience covers a wide variety of areas including acute care, road trauma rehabilitation (adults and paediatrics), orthopaedics, neurology, amputees, intensive care, hydrotherapy, chronic pain and group classes, with the majority of her time spent in the field of rehabilitation.
Tanya has taught in the undergraduate and graduate entry physiotherapy programs at both Flinders University and UniSA over the past 10 years across many different courses, and has also worked on developing online multi-media learning resources for students. At Adelaide University, she teaches REHB 1026 Physiotherapy Studies 100, REHB 1027 Physiotherapy Studies 101, REHB 2047 Biopsychosocial Practice, and RADY 2015 Radiation Therapy Clinical Practice 1 in 2024 and 2025. She demonstrates teaching strengths as an active listener, enthusiastic, positive, self-motivated, effective time manager, empathetic, compassionate, and proficient in digital literacy. Tanya has a particular interest in the mindfulness based approach to health management, the importance of self-care amongst health care professionals, interprofessional learning, and supporting students to transition into tertiary education.
