Tanis Kelly is a lecturer in the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science at Curtin University, within the Curtin School of Allied Health and Faculty of Health Sciences. She graduated from Curtin University in 2001 and has practiced as a physiotherapist in both public and private sectors since then. Her clinical experience encompasses a range of areas including neurology, cardiorespiratory, paediatrics, musculoskeletal, and women's health. Kelly holds a Master of Manipulative Physiotherapy, along with postgraduate training in manipulative physiotherapy and continence and pelvic floor physiotherapy. As a Manipulative Physiotherapist at Momentum Physio + Pilates, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of complex presentations and is skilled in dry needling.
Kelly has made significant contributions to teaching and learning at Curtin University. She received a Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, in collaboration with Sonia Ranelli, recognizing sustained and outstanding efforts in physiotherapy education within Physiotherapy and Exercise Science. She participated in a Teaching and Learning Grant project focused on supporting nutrition student engagement in health sciences through developing numeracy skills, affiliated with Physiotherapy, Exercise, and Public Health. In 2016, Kelly co-authored and presented an abstract at the Teaching & Learning Forum titled 'Authentic learning activities that guide students through the clinical reasoning process,' with Tracy Redwood, Anne Furness, John Owens, and Leo Ng. The presentation detailed two online learning packages developed using Udutu Authoring Tool software to foster clinical reasoning skills, providing interactive experiences and formative feedback. Of 340 enrolled students, 63% engaged, and respondents rated the activity highly at 4.51 out of 5 for supporting clinical reasoning learning. Additionally, she has served as a research assistant in studies on individual differences and self-regulatory factors in physiotherapy education.
