Tammy Austin-Ketch, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, is Dean and Professor in the College of Nursing at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, where she has led the college since her appointment in 2018. Prior to Upstate, she held positions for nearly 20 years at the University at Buffalo School of Nursing, serving as Assistant Dean for Master's and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs and as Clinical Professor, while maintaining an active clinical practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her PhD, along with FNP-BC and FAANP certifications, from the University at Buffalo.
Her academic interests encompass advanced practice nursing education, with research focusing on cancer survivorship, telehealth, Native American and rural health. Notable publications include "American Association of Nurse Practitioners Research Agenda, 2023-2028" (Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2024, co-authored with R. Arends et al.), a chapter titled "Integration of Telehealth into DNP Curriculum and Clinical Practice" (The DNP Professional: Translating Value from Classroom to Practice, 2024, with P. Paplham and M. Andrzejak), "Perceived Needs among Healthcare Providers Caring for Seriously Ill Adults Regarding Electronic Health Record Triggers for Palliative Care Referral" (CIN - Computers Informatics Nursing, 2023, with L.J. West et al.), "Nonsurgical Treatment Options for Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse" (Nursing for Women's Health, 2018), and "Ascertainment of Unmet Needs and Participation in Health Maintenance and Screening of Adult Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Survivors" (Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, 2017). Under her leadership, the College of Nursing has expanded programs including new Master's-level Nurse Practitioner tracks, partnerships with SUNY Canton and Onondaga Community College, and initiatives in telehealth and interprofessional education. Austin-Ketch was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2025, the first from Upstate to receive this distinction, and serves as Chair of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Nominating Committee (2024-2026).
