Tadhg O Laoghaire, also known as Kevin O'Leary, is a Lecturer in Production Animal Health in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University. He earned his BVetMed degree from the Royal Veterinary College, London, graduating in 2006, and holds membership in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). He completed a Clinical Training Scholarship, serving as a Senior Internship in Production Animal Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College in 2010. O Laoghaire's career began with two years in mixed veterinary practice in Cornwall, England, following graduation. He subsequently gained extensive experience in private practice across Wales, the South West and South East of England, and India, focusing on production and mixed animal veterinary care. In 2015, he relocated to Perth, Australia, where he initially worked part-time as a Demonstrator at Murdoch University. By 2018, he advanced to a full-time role as Registrar in Production Animal Health and Medicine. In 2023, he was promoted to his current position as Lecturer in Production Animal Health. His professional expertise encompasses cow comfort, production animal lameness, emergency farm animal medicine and surgery, and pet farm animal medicine. O Laoghaire's research interests include veterinary science, animal production, veterinary anatomy, veterinary infectious diseases, veterinary internal medicine, veterinary diagnostics, zoonotic diseases, animal anatomy and physiology, and zoonoses.
At Murdoch University, O Laoghaire contributes to veterinary education, serving as a unit coordinator for courses such as VET300 Animal Husbandry Extramural & Pre-clinical Placement, alongside colleagues Dr Honor Calnan and Dr Henry Annandale. He is actively involved in farm animal services at The Animal Hospital, supporting production animal health needs. His practical experience spans general practice, emergency clinical work, and specialized training in farm animal health and production medicine, reflecting a commitment to advancing veterinary care in production animals.
