Dr Theodosia Stratoudaki is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. She joined the institution in 2017 as a Strathclyde Chancellor’s Fellow after obtaining her PhD in laser ultrasonics from the University of Warwick. Prior to this appointment she worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Universities of Cambridge and Nottingham.
Her research centres on remote ultrasonic sensing and imaging using optical methods, in-line manufacturing process monitoring in extreme environments, non-destructive testing, material characterisation, optically excited sensors, laser-induced ultrasonic phased arrays and laser ultrasonics in advanced materials. She leads the Remote Ultrasonic Laser Lab and maintains industrial collaborations with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Sellafield and Hitachi. Dr Stratoudaki co-chairs the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee in her department and chairs the Physical Acoustics group of the Institute of Physics; she also serves on the British Standards Institute committee for ultrasonics. She has received the EPSRC DTA PhD studentship, the BINDT Annual Conference Paper Award and best paper awards in 2015 and 2018. Recent publications include “Neural networks for faster laser ultrasound tomography in tissue phantoms” (Photoacoustics, 2026), “Adaptive laser-induced phased arrays for imaging of defects on arbitrary non-flat surfaces” (NDT and E International, 2026), “Spatially encoded ultrasonic generation for laser-induced phased array imaging” (2025 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium), “Two-dimensional laser-induced phased arrays for remote volumetric ultrasonic imaging” (IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 2025), “A 2D ultrasonic phased array optimization framework enabled by reconfigurable laser induced phased arrays” (Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 2024) and “Online evolution of a phased array for ultrasonic imaging by a novel adaptive data acquisition method” (Scientific Reports, 2024). Dr Stratoudaki supervises PhD projects on fast and remote ultrasonic tomography using deep learning and laser ultrasound arrays as well as related topics in 2D arrays for 3D imaging, laser ultrasound signal maximisation and robotics integration for ultrasonic inspection.
