Umi Syamimi Saadon is an Assistant Lecturer with the Malaysia School of Information Technology at Monash University. She earned her Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) with Honors from Universiti Malaysia Pahang on 18 June 2016 and her Master of Computer Science (Software Technology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on 11 November 2018. In 2021, she joined Monash University Malaysia to pursue doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Lim Chern Hong and Dr. Lillian Yee Kiaw Wang. Prior to this appointment, Saadon gained practical experience as a System Analyst in industry, served as a lecturer at Segi College Kuala Lumpur, and taught IT in an international school. These diverse roles have equipped her with a strong foundation in both technical software practices and educational delivery.
Saadon's research interests focus on the integration of face recognition and motion detection in IoT-based attendance systems. Her specializations include software development processes, software architecture, human-computer interaction, software engineering, IoT, and face recognition. In 2024, she co-authored the paper titled 'IoT-based Smart Attendance System using Face Recognition and Motion Detection' with Lim Chern Hong and Lillian Yee Kiaw Wang, presented at the APSIPA ASC 2024 - Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association Annual Summit and Conference and published by IEEE. She is also listed as a supervisor on Monash University's Supervisor Connect platform within the School of Information Technology, contributing to research supervision efforts.
