Sutirtha Chatterjee is a full professor of information systems in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Lee Business School. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Washington State University in 2008, after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from Jadavpur University, India, and accumulating five years of experience in the IT industry. Prior to his current role, Chatterjee served on the faculty at Prairie View A&M University, receiving Dean’s Excellence Awards for research in 2010 and 2012. He joined the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as an assistant professor in 2012, was awarded tenure and promoted to associate professor in 2017, and advanced to full professor in 2023. His research specializations include information systems ethics, IT and innovation, electronic markets, mobile work, ethical and humanistic aspects of information systems, technology-mediated work, and information systems disciplinary issues. Chatterjee’s work has been published in leading journals such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and Decision Support Systems.
Key publications include “The Sociotechnical Axis of Cohesion for the IS Discipline: Its Historical Legacy and Its Continued Relevance” (MIS Quarterly, 2019, joint lead author), “A Possible Conceptualization of the Information Systems (IS) Artifact: A General Systems Theory Perspective” (Information Systems Journal, 2021), “Strategic Relevance of Organizational Virtues Enabled by Information Technology in Organizational Innovation” (Journal of Management Information Systems, 2015), “Virtual Team Efficacy Theory: An Integrative, Sociotechnical Understanding of the Emergence and Ramifications of Collective Efficacy in Virtual Teams” (Information Systems Research, 2026), and “Digital Responsibility: Current Perspectives and Future Directions” (Journal of the Association for Information Systems, 2025). He has received numerous honors, including Association for Information Systems Distinguished Member–Cum Laude (2021), induction into the JAIS Reviewer Hall of Fame (2020), best reviewer awards from JAIS (2018), EJIS (2024 and 2025), and JSIS (2024, co-winner), and ranking among the top 50 information systems researchers worldwide for 2021–2025 based on publications in premier journals. Chatterjee serves as Associate Editor at Information Systems Research, Senior Editor at Information Systems Journal, and previously as Senior Editor at JAIS (2019–2025). He has chaired mini-tracks on ethical issues in IS at conferences including AMCIS, HICSS, and ECIS, mentored at JAIS and ISR paper development workshops, secured research grants from UNLV’s Troesh Center, and teaches courses such as business analytics, IT and innovation, database management, systems analysis and design, and IS strategy.
