Rate My Professor Sujan Rajbhandari

Dr Sujan Rajbhandari is a Reader in the Institute of Photonics at the University of Strathclyde. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, in 2004. He completed an MSc in Optoelectronic and Communication Systems with distinction in 2006, for which he received the P O Byrne Prize for the most innovative project, and was awarded a PhD in 2010 from Northumbria University.

Dr Rajbhandari previously held research and academic positions at Bangor University, Northumbria University, Oxford University and Coventry University, and worked in industry at the Huawei R&D Centre in Sweden. His research focuses on optical wireless communications, including visible light communications and LiFi, free-space optical communications, terrestrial, non-terrestrial and underwater optical wireless systems, AI and machine learning applications in these areas, and free-space quantum key distribution. He has authored over 200 scholarly publications with more than 9,000 citations on Google Scholar. His contributions include the IEEE Photonics Technology Letters Best Paper Award in 2019 and recognition in the Highlights of 2017 in Semiconductor Science and Technology. He has served as an external examiner and visiting scholar at international institutions.
