Steven D. Glassner, Ph.D., serves as Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at St. Mary's University of San Antonio, having joined the faculty in Fall 2023. A native of north Texas, he served approximately six years in the active U.S. Army prior to his academic career. Dr. Glassner earned his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Texas State University in 2015, Master of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Texas, and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the same institution. Before arriving at St. Mary's, he held positions as Assistant Professor and subsequently Associate Professor at Tarleton State University, where he contributed to the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Strategic Studies.
Dr. Glassner's research centers on the deleterious outcomes linked to victimized and traumatized youth as they progress through the life course, with a particular emphasis on how early traumatization and victimization influence deviant or delinquent behaviors. His scholarship applies theoretical frameworks such as General Strain Theory to explore connections between bullying victimization, delinquency, substance use, cyberbullying trajectories, and suicidal ideation.
