Steven Clark serves as the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Valley University, a position he has held since 2017. He previously acted as Interim Associate Dean for the college from 2013 to 2016, Chair of the Behavioral Science Department from 2008 to 2013, and Faculty Senate President from 2006 to 2008. Clark joined Utah Valley University as faculty in 2000, following two years as an Assistant Professor at Lamar University and one year as a Lecturer at the University of New Hampshire. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Social Psychology and a cognate in College Teaching from the University of New Hampshire, an M.A. in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire, and a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology from Brigham Young University. These qualifications have underpinned his extensive career in academic leadership and teaching within behavioral sciences.
Clark's research interests include the judgment of contingency, mate selection, institutional policy systems, ballot measures, and student evaluations of teaching, which is his current focus. He has published articles addressing these areas, including the 2019 work titled 'Ballot Measures and Subversion of Direct Democracy: Initiatives to Outlaw Aerial Wolf Killing in Alaska' and the 2012 publication 'Alleviating the Policy Paradox through Improved Institutional Policy Systems: A Case Study.' Courses taught by Clark encompass Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, Personality Theory, and Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. Through these contributions in research, publication, and instruction, Clark has advanced knowledge in psychological and policy-related behavioral sciences at Utah Valley University.
