Associate Professor Stefan Jooss is an Associate Professor of Management at UQ Business School, The University of Queensland. He holds a PhD and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from University College Cork, National University of Ireland. He is a Member of the Academy of Management. His career includes prior roles as Senior Lecturer at UQ Business School from January 2023 to December 2025, Lecturer at University College Cork School of Business from January 2019 to December 2022, and Assistant Lecturer at Technological University Dublin from September 2015 to December 2018. Jooss possesses expertise in human resource management, specialising in talent management, global mobility, and the future of work. His research explores how organisations can build sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready workforces that address skills shortages and strengthen leadership capability.
A key focus of Jooss's work is workforce transformation, examining how digital technologies and artificial intelligence are reshaping jobs, skills, and careers. He investigates the digital transformation of HRM, talent marketplaces, and skills-based and algorithmic approaches to talent management, providing insights into balancing innovation, ethics, and inclusion. His publications feature in leading journals including Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management Review, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Business Review, Journal of Vocational Behavior, MIT Sloan Management Review, and International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. Key works include 'A skills-matching perspective on talent management: Developing strategic agility' (2023), 'Artificial intelligence and work design: implications for frontline service employees and future research' (2025), 'How to foster talent management champions' (2025), 'A typology of long-term expatriates: conceptualization, consequences and future research' (2025), and 'Expatriates in flexible global work arrangements' (2025). Jooss serves as Editorial Board Member for Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources and Associate Editor for The International Journal of Human Resource Management. Through industry, government, and international collaborations, his evidence-based research supports organisations and policymakers in workforce and technological transformation.
