Stafford Cameron serves as a Lecturer - Leadership, Pedagogy, Diversity and Inclusion (Teaching Focused) in the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education, at the University of New England. He earned his Bachelor of Arts and Diploma of Education (English/History) from UNE in 1983 and a Master of Education in School Leadership from the same institution in 2017. He also holds a Master of Arts in Catholic Educational Leadership (MACEL) and is a Justice of the Peace (JP). Cameron's career spans 37 years with the New South Wales Department of Education, during which he taught in multiple regional, rural, and remote locations across NSW. Key roles included Head Teacher English/History at Glen Innes High School and Deputy Principal at Toormina High School. He retired in 2021 after serving as Principal of Duval High School and co-Principal of Armidale Secondary College following its amalgamation.
In early 2021, Cameron joined UNE as a casual marker and later took a fixed-term contract as relieving Unit Coordinator for EDUC540 in the Master of Teaching program. He was appointed to his current permanent position as Lecturer in Contextual Studies (Teaching Focus) in June 2022. His research specialization focuses on the impact of high school amalgamations in regional and rural areas of New South Wales. He co-authored "Leading for empowerment and empathy during crisis events" published in the School of Education Newsletter (Volume 8, No. 2), based on interviews with school leaders in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand and a scoping review, identifying key themes in crisis management such as agility, mobilization, visibility, and system adaptation. Among his honors, Cameron received the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholar award in 2017. He is a member of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL), a Life Member of the New England Branch of the NSW Secondary Principals’ Council, and the NSW Teachers’ Federation. Cameron also contributes as a Leadership Consultant and Group Facilitator for the Connect: Assistant Principals Project led by the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. His teaching portfolio includes Applied Leadership and Teaching.
