About Soraia

Dr. Soraia De Camargo Catapan is a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Queensland's Centre for Online Health, part of the Centre for Health Services Research in the Faculty of Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in 2021, Masters (Research) of Public Health from the same institution in 2017, Postgraduate Certificate in Project Management from Faculdade Senac in 2013, Advanced Diploma from University of Wales Newport in 2008, and Bachelor (Honours) of Pharmacy from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in 2003. Her professional career includes extensive experience in healthcare service provision and research across the United Kingdom from 2003 to 2008, Brazil from 2009 to 2019, and Australia since 2019. In December 2019, she commenced a 12-month PhD research placement at the University of Queensland funded by a highly competitive Brazilian Government scholarship.

Dr. Catapan's research focuses on telehealth, virtual care, and digital health, with emphasis on digitally disrupted models of care for chronic conditions, trust and confidence in telehealth and digital health services, digital health literacy, health services research, implementation and evaluation strategies, mixed-methods and cross-sectional studies, co-design, qualitative inquiry, and community involvement. She leads an International Collaborative Research Program between the University of Queensland Centre for Online Health and the Santa Catarina Telehealth Centre in Brazil to advance equitable telehealth services. Since 2023, she has taught seven undergraduate and postgraduate courses on telehealth and digital health, reaching over 580 students, and established the UQ-COH Telehealth Consumer Reference Group in 2022. Her scholarly output includes a book chapter titled 'Telenursing and telehealth practice, telehealth at the Centre for Online Health, University of Queensland, Princess Alexandra Hospital' (2024) and 22 peer-reviewed articles, over 60% in Q1 journals with first or senior authorship, such as 'A systematic review of consumers' and healthcare professionals' trust in digital healthcare' (2025, npj Digital Medicine), 'Telephone versus video consultations: A systematic review of consumer and provider preferences' (2025, Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare), 'Improving consumer trust in digital health: A mixed methods study involving people living with chronic kidney disease' (2025, Digital Health), and 'Trust and confidence in telehealth-delivered services: a nation-wide cross-sectional study' (2024, Health Marketing Quarterly). As of August 2024, her work has garnered 280 citations and an h-index of 7, contributing to national policy changes in Brazil and the implementation of digital models of care in Australia. She has secured funding including projects from the National Heart Foundation of Australia (2022-2023) and CRC for Developing Northern Australia (2023-2026).
