Dr Simon Howson is an Online Course Facilitator at Adelaide University Online and Learning Futures in the College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities. He holds a PhD in Screen and Media from Flinders University. Since 2006, Dr Howson has worked as a tertiary educator, teaching various film, media, writing, communications, creative industries, Australian Studies, and Foundation Studies subjects and courses. He has lectured and coordinated for over three hundred students, planned and conducted lectures, tutorials, and seminars using a variety of technologies and methodologies both face-to-face and online. Since 2020, he has conducted over 200 hours of online tutorials, showcasing his proficiency in delivering high-quality education in diverse formats.
Associated with the School of Communication, Media and Journalism, Dr Howson currently coordinates and facilitates a range of undergraduate online courses at Adelaide University, including Public Relations: Theory and Practice (COMM 1076 UO and MARK 1014), Communication Research Methods (COMM 2090 UO and COMM 2005), Content Creation for Media (COMM 2092 UO), Integrated Communication Planning (COMM 3062, COMM 3003, and COMM 3077 UO), Promotional Communication: Advertising, Publicity and Marketing (COMM 3064 and COMM 3078 UO), Digital Documentary (COMM 3070 UO), Introduction to Human Behaviour (BUSS 1078 UO), Empirical Business Analysis (ECON 2015 UO), Introduction to Video Production (INFT 1029 UO), and Experiential Product Design for Tourism, Events and Hospitality (TOUR 2014 UO). These courses, taught in 2024 and 2025, cover theoretical foundations, research methods, practical media production, strategic planning, and promotional strategies in communications. Through his extensive teaching experience, Dr Howson plays a key role in equipping students with essential skills for professional success in media, public relations, advertising, and creative industries.
