Shu Jin Tan is a clinician and researcher affiliated with the Department of Infectious Diseases at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Murdoch, Western Australia, and the Department of Infectious Diseases at Royal Perth Hospital, Perth, Western Australia. Her research focuses on clinical pharmacology, particularly the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics in special populations such as elderly patients. A key publication is the 2020 paper titled 'Population Pharmacokinetic Study of Ceftriaxone in Elderly Patients Using Cystatin C-Based Estimates of Renal Function To Account for Frailty,' published in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. In this study, Shu Jin Tan completed participant recruitment, collated the data, and wrote the initial draft of the manuscript. Shu Jin Tan and Matthew Cockcroft contributed equally to this work. The study highlights the use of cystatin C-based estimates to better account for frailty in renal function assessments for ceftriaxone dosing.
Shu Jin Tan has co-authored several other significant publications in infectious diseases and pharmacology. These include 'Safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of a 2 g subcutaneous dose of ceftriaxone as an alternative to intravenous delivery' (2024), 'Pharmacokinetics of subcutaneous and intravenous ceftriaxone in older population: the PhASAge Study' (2026), and 'Population pharmacokinetics of penicillin G: insights into increased clearance at low concentrations to guide development of improved long-acting formulations for syphilis and prevention of rheumatic fever' (2025). Additional works cover 'Contact lens associated keratitis due to Tintelnotia destructans' (2019), investigations into increased incidence of non-Aspergillus invasive mold infections (2024), and 'Emphysematous Cystitis and Enterococcus raffinosus Ventriculitis' (2025). On ResearchGate, Shu Jin Tan has 6 research works accumulating 54 citations, primarily affiliated with Royal Perth Hospital. She has collaborated with researchers from the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at Curtin University on pharmacokinetic studies. Shu Jin Tan also serves as RPBG Site Representative for the East Metropolitan Health Service.
