About Shevaun

Dr. Shevaun Drislane serves as a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in political science in 2023, with her thesis titled "Why has Australia not enacted a no-fault compensation scheme for adverse events following vaccination? Exploring the potential for citizen collective action to influence the policy agenda." This work investigated policy agenda setting processes and the role of citizen collective action in advocating for no-fault compensation schemes, drawing comparisons with implementations in countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States. Her research interests encompass vaccination policy, public policy, policy agenda setting, and the interplay between state policies and individual citizens in policy making and implementation.

A key member of the VaxPol Lab at UWA, Dr. Drislane leads research on infant respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunisation, including a qualitative study on parental decisions to decline or delay nirsevimab uptake in Western Australia in 2024. She is also a Postdoctoral Researcher on the international MandEval project, assessing the effectiveness and consequences of COVID-19 vaccine mandates across multiple countries. Additionally, her contributions extend to exploring opportunities for vaccine compensation schemes post-COVID-19 and normative drivers for such policies. Dr. Drislane employs qualitative methods and comparative policy analysis in her scholarship. Her notable publications include: "Understanding parental decisions to decline or delay infant RSV immunisation, nirsevimab, in Western Australia in 2024" (Vaccine, 2026, with H. Moore and K. Attwell); "Media actors as policy entrepreneurs: a case study of “No Jab, No Play” and “No Jab, No Pay” mandatory vaccination policies in Australia" (Policy Sciences, 2024, with K. Attwell et al.); "Policy Feedback and the Politics of Childhood Vaccine Mandates: Conflict and Change in California, 2012-2019" (Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, 2024, with K. Attwell, A. Hannah, and M.C. Navin); and "Childhood vaccine refusal and what to do about it: a systematic review of the ethical literature" (BMC Medical Ethics, 2023, with K. Wiley et al.). She lectures in political science at UWA, contributing to education in public policy and administration.
