Dr. Shaun Ho is a Research Fellow in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Otago Christchurch, within the Division of Health Sciences. He obtained his MBBS from Monash University (1999-2004), holds Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), and was awarded a PhD by the University of Otago in 2022 for his thesis titled 'Non-invasive biomarkers for inflammatory bowel disease in children'. His doctoral work explored patient perceptions, serological tests, fecal and urinary biomarkers, and other non-invasive methods for diagnosing and monitoring paediatric gastrointestinal conditions.
Shaun Ho's research specializations encompass paediatric gastroenterology, with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and coeliac disease. He completed specialist training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and General Paediatrics at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, followed by a Clinical Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada. As a consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, he teaches University of Melbourne medical students and engages in research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. Ho is a member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA), accredited by the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Training in Gastroenterological Endoscopy for paediatric endoscopy, and serves on the PEDAGREE executive.
