Sharon Byatt serves as Interim Head of the School of Creative and Performing Arts at Liverpool Hope University, within the Arts and Culture faculty. She holds the position of Senior Lecturer and Senior Professional Tutor, leading the Musical Theatre BA (Hons) degree programme. Byatt trained professionally in Musical Theatre at The Arts Educational Schools in London and Tring, and earned a Masters degree in Text and Performance from King's College London and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). She joined Liverpool Hope University in 2021, initially in a consultancy role, to develop the combined Musical Theatre programme, which she now leads.
Byatt brings extensive experience from her professional career in theatre, television, film, and direction. Notable theatre credits include Blood Brothers as Linda, Mrs Johnstone, and Mrs Lyons in the original National Touring Cast, at the Albery Theatre and Phoenix Theatre in London; Grand Hotel as Tootsie/Flamencita at the Dominion Theatre; Aspects of Love as Ensemble/US Jenny at the Prince of Wales Theatre; John and Jen as Jen at Unity Theatre and Lantern Theatre in Liverpool; A Taste of Honey as Helen at Epstein Theatre; A Midsummer Night's Dream as Titania/Hippolyta and Romeo and Juliet as Lady Capulet at Epstein Theatre; and The Tommy Cooper Show as Gwen on national tour. Television roles feature Moving On (Channel 4), Clink (5 Star), Coronation Street (ITV), Holby City (BBC), Merseybeat (BBC), Hollyoaks In The City (Channel 4), Springhill (Channel 4), The Courtroom (Channel 4), Dream Team (Sky TV), Mile High (Sky TV), Bread (BBC), and Brookside (Channel 4). Film appearances include Our Kid as Tracey Reilly, which won Best Film at the 2023 Birmingham Film Festival; Billy Smith as Elisha Stone; My Kingdom as Annie; Powder as Jenna McKlusky; and Charlie Noades RIP as Brenda. As director, producer, and movement director, her credits encompass Homebaked at Liverpool Royal Court Theatre, Everyman Christmas Cabaret at Liverpool Everyman Theatre, and The Musical of Musicals...The Musical! at Hope Street Theatre. Byatt has performed at events such as the Eurovision Village stage in 2023.
