Shamain Saparamadu, PhD, serves as Senior Lecturer Grade I and Head of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Institute of Technology University of Moratuwa (ITUM), Sri Lanka. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Moratuwa, and a Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) qualification from the United Kingdom. At ITUM, she delivers specialized courses in mathematics and statistics tailored for engineering applications, such as Mathematics and Statistics (IS1104), Mathematical Methods with Engineering Applications (IS1204), Advanced Mathematics and Statistics (IS2301), and Computational Mathematics and Advanced Statistics (IS2303).
Her research specializations encompass airport planning and optimization of passenger and baggage flows, mathematical modelling for rainfall forecasting in disaster-prone areas, assessment of walkability and pedestrian dynamics in tropical urban settings, and analysis of behavioral outcomes in children with autism. Saparamadu has an extensive publication record, featuring over 20 papers presented at international conferences and published in journals. Notable contributions include “Optimizing Passenger and Baggage Flow in an Airport Terminal” (2012), “Passenger Arrival and Waiting Patterns at Terminal Service Centers at Bandaranaike International Airport” (2013), “Mathematical Models to Forecast Rainfall for Disaster Preparedness in Sri Lanka” (2016/2018), “A Model to Assess Off-Campus Walkability of University Students in Urban Tropical Contexts” (2022), “Influence of the Safety-Security Attributes on the Walkability of University Students in Sri Lanka” (2023), and “The Role of Different Parenting Styles on Behavioural Outcomes in Children with Autism” (2025). She holds memberships in the Sri Lanka Association for Improving Higher Education Effectiveness and the Institute of Applied Statistics Sri Lanka.
