Sean Alcorn serves as a Lecturer in Pharmacotherapeutics within the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences at Griffith University, part of Griffith Health. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Queensland, completed between 2001 and 2004, and a Graduate Diploma of Education. With over 15 years of experience as a practicing pharmacist in both hospital and community settings, Alcorn brings substantial clinical expertise to academia. His special interests include antimicrobial stewardship, teaching and learning, medication safety, drug utilisation, mental health, obstetrics, psychogeriatrics, and hospital pharmacy practice.
In teaching, Alcorn delivers pharmacotherapeutics courses in the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy programs, convening 7005PHM Pharmacotherapeutics II and 7009PHM Pharmacotherapeutics III. He has advanced pharmacy education through innovations like simulated patient cases with DecisionSim to improve clinical reasoning and the 'DrugSpeak' program to enhance drug name pronunciation skills. His research features studies on plant extract antibacterials, including 'An assessment of the growth inhibition profiles of Hamamelis virginiana leaf extracts' (2021), 'An Assessment of the Antibacterial Activities, Phytochemistry and Toxicities of Nigella damascena L.
