Associate Professor Satish Alapati holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from India, a Certificate in General Practice Residency from the USA, a Master of Science (MS) in Dental Materials Science from the USA, a PhD in Oral Biology from The Ohio State University, and a Certificate in Endodontics from the University of Illinois Chicago. He previously served as Associate Professor in the Department of Endodontics at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry, with adjunct appointments in Paediatric Dentistry and Bioengineering. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Endodontics at the Melbourne Dental School, University of Melbourne, where he serves as Program Director for the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry, Discipline Lead for Endodontics, and Principal Coordinator for the Endodontics major within that program. He coordinates Endodontics subjects including Endodontics 1, 2, and 3.
Professor Alapati's research specializations include endodontics, tissue engineering, dental pulp stem cell differentiation and mineralisation, growth factor release, and bacterial migration through dentine. Key projects at Melbourne Dental School involve assessing dentine matrix proteins on dental pulp stem cell migration and mineralisation, parathyroid hormone-conditioned dental pulp stem cells, and migration of Streptococcus anginosus and Enterococcus faecalis through dentine. He has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers and two book chapters, including 'Metallurgical characterization of a new nickel-titanium wire for rotary endodontic instruments' (Journal of Endodontics, 2009) and 'Micro-XRD and temperature-modulated DSC investigation of nickel–titanium rotary endodontic instruments' (Dental Materials, 2009). He has delivered over 100 research presentations and lectures nationally and internationally on endodontics topics. In 2009, he received the Educator Fellowship Award from the Foundation for Endodontics of the American Association of Endodontists. Alapati contributes to the Repair, Rehabilitation and Regeneration research theme and serves on the editorial team of the International Journal of Dental Materials. He has represented Melbourne Dental School in international collaborations, including visits to Delhi University and conferences like IADR Asia Pacific.
