Throughout her association with the University of Otago, Sarah Ewing has played a pivotal role in international student recruitment efforts. In October 2024, she welcomed the inaugural cohort of students under the Indonesia International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program at Dunedin airport, highlighting the partnership's importance in strengthening Otago's presence in South-East Asia and supporting budding global citizens. She has facilitated visits for international groups, such as pharmacy students from Southwest University (SWU) in China in February 2025, where she shared insights on international student life at Otago. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Ewing participated in virtual recruitment activities, including events targeted at Indian audiences, helping sustain strong interest from overseas applicants despite global travel restrictions. Earlier, in 2019, she collaborated with colleagues to address marketing challenges overseas, emphasizing agent networks, digital strategies, and the university's top New Zealand ranking for international outlook.
