Sally Goldrick is a Lecturer in Screen Arts in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, Faculty of Humanities, at Curtin University. A seasoned producer and director with over twenty years in the media industry, she transitioned from professional practice to academia, bringing real-world expertise to her students. ABC-trained, Goldrick has held production roles at the ABC and SBS, freelanced extensively, and served as series producer, producer, and director for the national children's television program RollerCoaster TV from 2005 to 2010. Through her company, Sally Goldrick Productions, she directed Heart Coming Home in 2017 and Whadjuk to Wadjemup in 2015, the latter documenting the first all-Aboriginal relay team to complete the Rottnest Channel Swim, highlighting Nyungar history and creation stories associated with the event.
In her teaching, Goldrick specializes in television studio production and screen arts, employing innovative assessments where students create real-time TV shows, maintaining relevance amid AI advancements by emphasizing human creativity, shot selection, and industry skills. She has partnered with entities like the Fremantle Dockers and Indigenous communities for NITV content. Goldrick co-directed, produced, and shot Whadjuk to Wadjemup, earning a nomination for an Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) Award in 2015. As part of a team, she received a 2016 Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning from the Australian Awards for University Teaching for Noongar Dandjoo, a work-integrated learning program producing magazine-style TV with the Nyungar community to celebrate their culture. Additional contributions include collaborations on the Energaia: Imagining Energy Futures exhibition at John Curtin Gallery, student music videos at festivals, and facilitating professional crew opportunities for students. Her projects promote cultural storytelling and practical media training.
