Sadun Kithulagoda serves as Senior Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Otago's Wellington campus. This department belongs to the Faculty of Medicine within the Health Sciences Division and is dedicated to multidisciplinary work that links basic science with clinical research and delivers high-quality clinical teaching. The department contributes to modules in the MB ChB programme and provides vocationally-focused postgraduate qualifications. Kithulagoda holds a Diploma in Applied Science from Auckland University of Technology. In parallel to his academic appointment, Sadun Kithulagoda is an anaesthetic technician at Wellington Regional Hospital, supporting clinical education and practice. He received the Honorary Queen's Service Medal in the 2024 New Year Honours list. The citation recognizes his more than 20 years of service to Wellington's Sri Lankan expatriate community, including membership in the United Sri Lanka Association since 1992 and serving as its President from 2013 to 2016 to promote younger migrant involvement; acting as Programme Director of the Lak Handa Sri Lankan Community Radio programme for 25 years; serving as Events Coordinator for the Sri Lankan Dance Academy Incorporated for 20 years, producing stage sets for performances at festivals; training as a traditional Sri Lankan marriage celebrant and volunteering nationwide; organizing the Sri Lankan float for Wellington’s Christmas Street Parade for over ten years; and volunteering annually with medical professionals traveling to Sri Lanka to perform surgical procedures and organize equipment shipments to hospitals.
