Chun teaches courses in data visualization, information design, and multimedia storytelling, equipping students with practical skills in visual communication and digital media production. His career reflects a commitment to bridging industry expertise with academic instruction in journalism and media studies.
Chun has advanced scholarly publishing and research in visual communication. In 2026, he was appointed editor-in-chief of Visual Communication Quarterly, a journal of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, with his term extending through 2028; he had served as associate editor since 2022. He authored Adobe Animate CC Classroom in a Book (Adobe Press, 2017), which earned him the Lawrence A. Stessin Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Publication in the 2018-2019 academic year. Chun received a research grant from Hofstra's Center for “Race,” Culture and Social Justice to examine racial and gendered biases in images generated by AI tools, highlighting how these technologies may perpetuate cultural stereotypes in media storytelling. As Departmental Personnel Committee Chair, he contributes to faculty governance. Chun has engaged in public discourse through university panels on academic freedom, AI's role in higher education and the arts, and media diversity issues, such as representation at the Oscars. His work underscores the ethical dimensions of visual media in contemporary society.
