Dr. Russ Fox is a Lecturer in applied behaviour analysis in the School of Educational Psychology and Counselling within the Faculty of Education at Monash University. As a trained primary school teacher, he brings extensive practical experience from teaching in mainstream and specialist primary and secondary school settings, with a focus on alternative education programs supporting students with learning and behavioural support needs. Throughout his career, Fox has served as an instructional coach, delivering in-school consultation and coaching to teachers and school leaders to enhance the implementation of learning and behavioural supports in classrooms. Additionally, he was seconded to a Senior Policy role in the Victorian Department of Education and Training, where he developed policies and practical resources aimed at reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices in schools. From 2013 to 2020, he worked as a Capacity Building Teacher for the Department of Education Victoria.
Fox's research centres on the implementation and sustainability of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) frameworks in educational settings, the effectiveness and usability of evidence-based instructional practices, implementation science across school, community, and disability contexts, and the provision of responsive staff training. His scholarly interests encompass inclusive education, applied behaviour analysis, multi-tiered systems of support, response to intervention, teacher professional development, functional behavioural assessment, teleconsultation, school-based interventions, school-wide positive behaviour support, and positive behaviour support. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications, including "Exploring the epistemological significance of qualitative research in behavior analysis" (2026, Behavior Analysis in Practice), "Identifying Victorian teachers’ perceptions of the barriers and facilitators to successful implementation of multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) frameworks for reading" (2026, Australian Journal of Learning Difficulties), "A positive behaviour support practice framework for disability and community services in Australia that prioritises human rights and evidence-based practices" (2025, Disability and Rehabilitation), and "Coaching for positive behavioural support implementation: models in Australian school systems" (2025, International Journal of Positive Behavioural Support). Fox has received prestigious awards such as the Lee Mills Award in 2022 and the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence - Early Career in 2025. As Primary Chief Investigator, he leads the project "Engaged Classrooms through Effective Classroom Management" (2024-2026) and contributes to various initiatives on behaviour support and inclusive education. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 4, and he has engaged in media discussions and policy submissions on classroom behaviour management.
