Rosario Torres-Guevara is an Associate Professor and Deputy Chairperson in the Department of Academic Literacy and Linguistics at Borough of Manhattan Community College, City University of New York (CUNY). From Mexico, she has 21 years of teaching experience in English as a Second/Foreign Language (ESL/EFL), ESL/EFL/Bilingual Education Teacher Training, Language Arts, Immigration and Education, and Critical Thinking. Her career history encompasses institutions such as CUNY City College, SUNY Educational Opportunity Center, Teachers College Columbia University, Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico, and the Mexican-North American Institute of Cultural Relations. She currently teaches courses including CRT 100 (Critical Thinking), supporting BMCC's Associate Degree Program that applies critical thinking to justice concepts.
Dr. Torres-Guevara holds an EdD in International Educational Development with a concentration in Bilingual/Intercultural Education, an MA in TESOL/Linguistics, both from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA in Applied Linguistics with a concentration in Didactics from the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon. Her research specializations are language policy, immigration and education, and intercultural education. A significant publication is her co-authored chapter 'Monoglossic Ideologies and Language Policies in the Education of U.S. Latinas/os' in the Handbook of Latinos and Education: Theory, Research and Practice (2009). She serves as an Executive Officer of the Caribbean Philosophical Association, Advisory Board member of the CUNY Graduate Center's Futures Initiative, and Past Faculty Fellow, where she participated in team-taught courses and the 2018 Spring Forum on 'Publics, Politics, and Pedagogy: Remaking Higher Education for Turbulent Times.' Her contributions advance bilingual education and public pedagogy within CUNY.
