Dr. Rohini Balapumi serves as a Lecturer in the School of Management and Marketing, Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She is also the Acting Director of Learning and Teaching within the Curtin Business School and is affiliated with the Office of the Provost. Possessing a Doctor of Philosophy, Dr. Balapumi brings over two decades of teaching experience, specializing in the Information Systems discipline. Her research specializations include learning and teaching innovation in higher education, self-regulated and independent learning, the role of reflection in pedagogy, mobile learning applications, and the societal impacts of technological advancements. An Associate Fellow of the Australian Computer Society, she actively engages in professional development and contributes to the academic community through supervision of research students and participation in educational initiatives.
Throughout her career at Curtin University, Dr. Balapumi has authored and co-authored numerous publications that have advanced understanding in her fields of interest. Key works include the edited volume Management Information Systems: Harnessing Technologies for Business & Society (2023), co-edited with colleagues from Curtin University; the peer-reviewed article "Switching mobile learning on in Pakistan: Students’ experiences and perceptions of mobile learning activities and applications" published in 2025; and the book chapter "The Role of Reflection in Learning at Higher Education" featured in Educating for Ethical Survival (2021, Emerald Publishing). Additional significant contributions are "Being a Reflective Practitioner: Reflecting on learning and teaching using Schön’s model of Reflection" (2022), "Factors influencing university students' self-regulation of learning: an exploratory study" (2016), "Concepts and factors influencing independent learning in IS higher education" (2012), and an early technical paper "IPv6 anycast address lookup using trier-based algorithm" (2003). Dr. Balapumi has delivered guest lectures internationally, including on the societal impact of technological innovation at Curtin University Colombo, and employs innovative tools such as Microsoft Copilot for creating accessible rubrics aligned with learning outcomes. Her work underscores a commitment to ethical considerations in technology-driven business education and fostering reflective practices among students and educators.
