Robert Yost, Ph.D., is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Biology at the Indiana University Indianapolis School of Science. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and pursued post-graduate work at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands as well as at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Yost's early research focused on lipid metabolism in the lungs and the liver. During his post-doctoral fellowship, he discovered a profound enthusiasm for helping others learn, which led him to transition from traditional research to a career in teaching faculty. This shift marked the beginning of his dedicated commitment to science education at the university level.
In his current position, Yost conducts education research centered on understanding student views on diversity in the sciences. He also investigates ways to improve scientific exploration by facilitating student participation in regional, state, and international science fairs. Beyond his academic responsibilities, Yost holds significant leadership roles in science education organizations. He serves as a board member of the Science Education Foundation of Indiana (SEFI), contributes committee service to the Indiana Science Technology Engineering and Math (I-STEM) initiative, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Advisory Council for the Society for Science and the Public, the parent organization of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Additionally, Yost is an elected member of the Indiana University University Faculty Council, representing the Biology Department on the IU Indianapolis campus. He also serves on the Advisory Council of the IU Indianapolis Honors College. His multifaceted involvement demonstrates his substantial impact on STEM education, faculty governance, and student development in biology and related fields.
