Robert Robbins, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biology at Utah Valley University, having been granted emeritus status in 2020 after a long and dedicated career in higher education. He earned his Ph.D. in Plant Anatomy from the University of Illinois and held the position of tenured Professor in the Biology Department, with expertise in plant anatomy and plant physiology. His academic journey at Utah Valley University, previously known as Utah Valley State College, is evidenced in official university records dating back to the 2004-2005 undergraduate catalog, where he is listed among the biology faculty alongside colleagues such as James Price, Mike Shively, and Richard Tolman.
Robbins made notable contributions to curriculum development and instruction. In 2007, during deliberations by the Utah State Board of Regents, he was identified as a key full-time tenured faculty member prepared to teach core courses in the proposed Bachelor of Science Degree in Biotechnology program, fostering partnerships with Salt Lake Community College. He taught courses including Plant Biology (BOT 3340) and co-authored the Bio1625 College Biology II Laboratory Manual, revised in 2017 with Dr. Larry Gray, which supported laboratory education in college biology. Beyond teaching, Robbins engaged in faculty governance through participation in senate meetings and publicly commented on campus issues, such as opposing concealed carry in 2013 as a professor of biology and botany. He also endorsed scientific advocacy efforts, signing the 2011 Experts' Letter defending the Endangered Species Act and later World Scientists' Warnings to Humanity. In 2020, he served as a lecturer at UVU, reflecting his enduring commitment to the institution and the field of biology.
