Robert Meeds, Ph.D., serves as a Professor of Communications in the Department of Communications at California State University, Fullerton, a position he has held since joining the faculty in the fall of 2015. He earned his Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Missouri, as well as a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science from Ball State University. Prior to his appointment at CSUF, Meeds was an Associate Professor of Mass Communication at Qatar University. His expertise lies in marketing communications, with teaching areas encompassing advertising and integrated marketing communications. Meeds maintains an active research profile, with interests in advertising and eye tracking methodologies, as documented on his Google Scholar profile affiliated with California State University, Fullerton.
Meeds has made significant contributions to curriculum development and faculty support at CSUF. As chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum and Assessment Committee, he has led numerous changes over recent years, including the establishment of new academic certificate programs and a mandatory digital skills course for all Communications majors. He has mentored both new full-time faculty and adjunct instructors for this course and has participated in search, personnel, and other pivotal leadership roles within the department. His service extends to college, university, and professional levels. In 2020, Meeds was honored in the Faculty Recognition Program for his exceptional service and collegiality. Key publications include 'The Effects of Feature and Benefit Sentences in Advertising Copy on Consumers' Memory and Attitudes,' co-authored work on 'Comparing Visual Attention Allocated to Thematic, Attribute and Benefit Headline Claims in Health Magazine Advertisements,' and 'Framing diabetes public health information during Ramadan' (2017). He has also supervised student theses, such as one on cannabis legitimacy in advertising. Beyond academia, Meeds serves as a reserve firefighter for the Orange County Fire Authority, demonstrating commitment to community safety.
