Dr. Ridoan Karim serves as a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Centre for Commercial Law and Regulatory Studies (CLARS) - Malaysia Hub at the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia, within the Department of Business Law & Taxation. His academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Law from Universiti Malaya awarded in 2021, a Master of Comparative Laws from International Islamic University Malaysia in 2016, a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management and Leadership from the University of Chichester in 2022, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from BRAC University in Bangladesh. Before joining Monash University Malaysia, he held a full-time lecturing position for more than three years at the School of Business Administration, East Delta University in Bangladesh. He has also acted as a consultant and fellow in research projects funded by the Legal Affairs Division of the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department, the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education under the FRGS Grant Scheme, University of Malaya, and the Monash Data Futures Institute.
Dr. Karim's research lies at the intersection of law, science, and technology, encompassing energy and natural resources law, cyber law, environment and energy law, business law, and law and technology. He has authored and co-authored scholarly monographs such as Cyber Law in Malaysia: Principles & Practices (Sweet & Maxwell-Thomson Reuters), Navigating Nuclear Energy Lawmaking for Newcomers: An Asian Perspective (Springer), and The US-DPRK Peace Treaty: A Commentary (Springer). He co-edited Energy Justice: Affordable, Reliable, Sustainable and Modern Energy for All (Springer) and Digital Strategy and Governance in Transformative Technologies (CRC Press). His peer-reviewed articles appear in prestigious journals including Energy Research & Social Science, Journal of Energy and Natural Resources Law, International Data Privacy Law, Australian Business Law Review, Tort Law Review, and Common Law World Review. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Monash School of Business Excellence Award (Research) in 2022. Dr. Karim conducts professional training sessions in collaboration with Monash University, Esselaro, and various private and public entities. He has delivered public lectures on topics including an international framework for regulating AI and Big Data, global and local concerns of data protection laws, and apology as a remedy for defamation in Malaysia.
