Rich Dhyanchand, MD, MS, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, within the College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture. A native of Rockford, Illinois, and resident of Lancaster, Wisconsin, he earned a B.S. in mathematics from Wheaton College in 1993, an M.D. from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2001, an M.S. from the same institution, and completed graduate-level coursework in public health and epidemiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to academia, Dhyanchand served as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Pfizer, Inc., and conducted vision research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He joined the faculty at UW-Platteville in 2010 and has taught and mentored undergraduate students pursuing healthcare careers for over a decade, with a particular passion for rural healthcare in Wisconsin.
Dhyanchand teaches Biology 2140 Anatomy & Physiology I, Biology 2240 Anatomy & Physiology II, Biology 2340 Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Biology 4440 Human Gross Anatomy, and Biology 4540 Introduction to Human Pathology. He also serves as an Anatomy Lecturer for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health's Physician Assistant program on the Platteville campus. In 2019, he received the student-voted Excellence in Teaching Award. As a dedicated pre-healthcare advisor, including for pre-medicine, he supports students' preparation for professional programs through workshops, mock interviews, and conferences. Dhyanchand serves on the boards of the Scenic Rivers Area Health Education Center, Grant Regional Health Center, Grant County Health and Human Services Board, and the UW Carbone Cancer Center Community Advisory Board. He participates in community initiatives such as rural health summits, COVID-19 expert panels, and cancer conferences. Additionally, he acts as the Men's Basketball Athletic Mentor at UW-Platteville.
