Dr. Rebecca Crabbe serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Otago, Wellington, within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago. She earned her MBChB from the University of Otago in 2010, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Medical Gynaecology (PGDipOMG), and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2020. Holding full New Zealand medical registration since December 2011 with a vocational scope in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, she combines her academic role with clinical consultancy in both public and private sectors in Wellington. As a supervisor for RANZCOG training doctors, she contributes to the professional development of future specialists in the field.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Crabbe emphasizes patient-centered care, addressing a broad spectrum of gynaecological conditions including menstrual disorders, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic pain, postmenopausal bleeding, pelvic floor prolapse, and menopausal symptoms. She specializes in minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery and is a qualified colposcopist. Academically, she teaches key modules on early pregnancy abnormalities and screening in the University of Otago's OBGY 712 paper, part of the Postgraduate Certificate in Pregnancy and Medical Gynaecology, supporting extramural education in women's health. Her research interests align with maternal and reproductive health, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications such as 'Scorecards for health system performance assessment: the New Zealand example' (Health Policy, 2011, co-authored with Robin Gauld et al.), 'Influential factors in patient uptake of influenza vaccination during pregnancy: a survey-based audit in a tertiary hospital setting' (New Zealand Medical Journal, 2019, co-authored with Kristin André et al.), and 'What are women saying about noninvasive prenatal testing?
