Dr Rebecca Bachmann is a Lecturer in Accounting in the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University. She serves as Course Director for the Bachelor of Professional Accounting. She earned her PhD in Accounting from the University of Technology Sydney in 2022. Her research specializations include executive remuneration, corporate governance, sustainability reporting, and corporate social responsibility, with publications such as “Powerful CEOs, cash bonus contracts and firm performance” in the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting in 2020, “CSR restatements: mischief or mistake?” in the Journal of Management Accounting Research in 2023, and “CEO performance targets: The impact of Big 4 accounting firms versus other compensation consultants” in the Australian Journal of Management in 2025. She has secured competitive grants, including funding from the Australian Accounting Standards Board for work on climate-related disclosures, and serves on the editorial board of the Australian Journal of Management while reviewing for journals including Accounting & Finance and Corporate Governance: An International Review. Bachmann is a Fellow of Advance HE and has received recognition including Early Career Researcher of the Year (Highly Commended) at the 2025 Academic Staff Awards, the 2026 MQBS Impact Story Prize, and Highly Commended Finalist in the 2024 Vice-Chancellor’s Student-Nominated Teaching Awards. Prior to joining Macquarie University she taught at the University of Technology Sydney, where she was awarded the University Medal and multiple teaching awards. Her work has received national media coverage in outlets including The Guardian, ABC Radio National, and The Sydney Morning Herald.
