Raymond Lynch serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of Limerick, where he has been teaching in the area of Initial Teacher Education since 2006. A qualified technology teacher, he held the position of Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences from 2016 to 2022, supporting the development and accreditation of several new programme offerings. Until 2024, he was Associate Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies at the University of Limerick.
Lynch's research interests focus on student interests and self-efficacy, task difficulty and task valence, curriculum development, and fictionalism in education. His key publications include "Self-efficacy development in student teachers: the critical role of school placement" (2026, European Journal of Teacher Education, with J.R. Power and K. Atit), "Considerations for classroom management in the absence of libertarian free will" (2025, Educational Philosophy and Theory, with J. Hennessy), "Exploring teachers’ and students’ views and experiences of field trips" (2025, Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning), "The use of ideal types in educational policy analysis: a step-by-step guide" (2025, Journal of Curriculum Studies, with J. Hennessy and O. McGarr), and "Caveats for change: exploring pre-service teachers’ concerns regarding change" (2024, Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice, with O. McCormack and J. Hennessy). He has contributed to the Framework for Junior Cycle research study, including the Final Report (2026) and interim reports (2024). With over 800 citations, his work has impacted teacher education and curriculum studies. Lynch received the President’s Staff Excellence Award 2020 in the Exceptional Team Member category and the Excellence in Teaching (Team) EHS Faculty Award 2019.
