She co-authored the 2014 publication 'Employment Among Schoolchildren and Its Associations With Adult Substance Use, Psychological Well-being, and Academic Achievement' in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The study drew on longitudinal data from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study to analyze the impacts of paid part-time employment at ages 11, 13, and 15 on adult outcomes. Employment at age 13 was linked to higher odds of adult smoking and regular binge drinking after adjustments for confounders including IQ, socioeconomic disadvantage, and school attitude. Conversely, employment at age 15 showed protective effects against regular cannabis use and was associated with greater social participation. No detrimental effects on psychological well-being measures or educational qualifications were consistently found. At the time of publication, her affiliation was the Centre for Innovation, University of Otago.
