About Quintin

Quintin Owens serves as Chair of the School of Arts and Associate Professor of Art in the Studio Art program at Black Hills State University (BHSU) in Spearfish, South Dakota. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Pennsylvania State University and joined the BHSU faculty on August 20, 2018, initially as Assistant Professor of Art. Owens has since been promoted to Associate Professor and appointed Chair of the School of Arts. He acts as the assigned faculty internship coordinator for Studio Art BFA programs in Sculpture, Ceramics, Crafts, and 3D Printing. His office is located in Woodburn Hall, room 300, and he contributes to various university committees, including those involving faculty assignments and governance.

Owens maintains an active exhibition record and engages in community-oriented art initiatives. His artwork was featured in the BHSU Fine Arts Faculty exhibition at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City from October 11, 2024, to January 4, 2025, alongside works by colleagues in screenprints, stained glass, ceramics, and other media. In fall 2025, he partnered with the Northern Hills Training Center to lead a pottery workshop for their annual chili feed fundraiser. Additional exhibitions include the Ruddell Gallery on the BHSU campus, displaying pieces with artists such as Michael Baum and Desy Schoenewies, and the South Dakota Governor's 10th Biennial Art Exhibition. He presented "Float Your Own Boat" at the SECAC conference in 2025 and served as keynote speaker at a South Dakota School of Mines & Technology event on art and engineering co-curricular engagement. Owens also holds a position on the board of directors for the Rapid City Arts Council, supporting regional arts impact. Through these roles, he bridges academic instruction, professional artistry, and local community development in the visual arts field.
