Dr. Peter Thiedeke is a Senior Lecturer at the Queensland College of Art and Design within Griffith University's Arts, Education and Law Group. He is a practising interdisciplinary image-maker working at the intersection of art and design, contributing to international collectives. Thiedeke has exhibited his work in prominent locations worldwide, including London, Paris, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in urban media art from Griffith University, for which he was awarded the Chancellor's Medal for Excellence in the PhD Thesis in 2024. This prestigious honor recognizes his exemplary performance in higher degree by research and the significance of his doctoral thesis concerned with post-digital critique of surveillance capitalism in the Smart City through urban informatics, media architecture, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Everything.
As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Thiedeke teaches broadly across undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Queensland College of Art and Design, convening courses such as Strategic Visual Communication (7535QCA), Motion Design (1740QCA), and Creative Internships (3615QCA). He leads Future Projections, a funded research initiative of the Creative Arts Research Institute (CARI) at Griffith University, focusing on experimental arts in public space and interactive media. His research specializations include photography, fine art, and design. Notable creative outputs encompass the immersive video installation 'TWIFSY (The world is fine, save yourself)' commissioned by Brisbane City Council, 'Communing with Robots: A public art experiment' at the World Science Festival Brisbane Curiocity 2022, 'Bones' featured at ISEA2024, and 'Lilium – A post-digital cine-poem,' which earned the AMPS YouTube Channel Award in 2022 alongside collaborators Andrew R. Brown and John Ferguson. Earlier in his career, he received awards from D&AD (Design and Art Direction), the Association of Photographers (AOP), and the Nikon Press Awards. Thiedeke's contributions advance practice-based research in post-digital media and convergent media arts.
