Dr. Peter Moyes is the Director of the Animation Program and Senior Lecturer in Animation at Griffith Film School, Griffith University. He specializes in animation and film history and contextual studies. Having earned his Bachelor of Animation from Griffith University in 1993, Moyes has taught animation history for nearly 30 years. As a creative producer in animation research, his academic interests encompass the utilization of animation for education and community applications, holistic approaches to tertiary education, live music-animation relations, and experiential animation in virtual reality. Throughout his career at Griffith University, he has held leadership roles including Director of the Brisbane International Animation Festival from 1996 to 2000. His professional engagements include serving as the CILECT contact person for Griffith Film School and membership in the Society for Animation Studies Special Interest Group on Animation and Education.
Moyes has produced several key research outputs and creative works. Notable publications include 'Max the Apple: a Multimodal research Project' (2010), 'Wise Up, Kid!: talkin' peace, love and straight thinkin'' (2015, developed with a Griffith University AEL New Researcher Grant), 'Reflexive Perplexities: The Virtual Camera in She's Not There' (2017), 'The Space Between Frames: animation, emptiness and hapless delusion' (2020), and writer for 'An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe It' (2021). He co-conceived and directed the animation 'She's Not There' with Louise Harvey, employing motion capture of a vocal performance. Moyes has supervised student projects such as internships with the Bluey production team, ensuring graduates are job-ready, and films including 'Don't Be a Bad Apple' (2017). He has also led initiatives like Griffith Film School study tours to Beijing and contributed to outback filmmaking through Kolperi.
