Paul Jarley serves as Dean and Professor of Management in the College of Business Administration at the University of Central Florida, a role he has held since July 2012. In Business & Economics, Jarley possesses a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1987), an M.A. in Public Policy from the University of Michigan (1982), and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan (1980). His extensive career trajectory includes Professor of Management at the Lee Business School, University of Nevada-Las Vegas (2007-2012); Gatton Endowed Professor of Management, Senior Associate Dean, and Director of the Center for Labor Education & Research at the Gatton College of Business and Economics, University of Kentucky (1999-2007); Department Chair and Professor of Management at Louisiana State University (1998-1999); Associate Professor at Louisiana State University (1993-1998); and Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Iowa (1986-1993). Jarley was reappointed as Dean in 2022 for an additional five years. Under his leadership, the UCF College of Business, one of the largest with over 8,300 undergraduates and 800 graduate students, has launched innovative programs in Integrated Business, FinTech, Business Analytics, and Space Commercialization. He established The EXCHANGE, a daily TED-style forum for student interactions with industry leaders, alongside student ambassador networks and corporate partnerships emphasizing experiential learning.
Jarley's research focuses on industrial relations, particularly national union governance, organizing effectiveness, innovation, and participation. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Industrial Relations, British Journal of Industrial Relations, Journal of Labor Research, and Labor Studies Journal, with editorial board service for the Journal of Labor Research. Notable publications include the book Plant Closings and Economic Dislocation (1981, with J.P. Gordus and L.A. Ferman); National Union Effectiveness in Organizing: Measures and Influences (1995, with J. Fiorito and J.T. Delaney, 181 citations); Unions as Social Capital: Renewal through a Return to the Logic of Mutual Aid? (2005, 148 citations); Justice and Union Participation (2004, with N.B. Johnson, 126 citations); A Structural Contingency Approach to Democracy and Bureaucracy in U.S. National Unions (1997, with J. Fiorito and J.T. His honors encompass the Fulbright Senior Research Scholar Award (1997), Outstanding Paper Award from the Academy of Management's Personnel and Human Resources Division (1991), Teacher of the Year in Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the University of Iowa (1990), and E.J. Ourso College of Business Excellence in Research Award (1998).
