Patricia Richards is an Associate Professor of Photography within the Arts and Culture faculty at Tarrant County College's Northeast Campus, part of the Tarrant County College District. Holding a Master of Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University, a Master of Science in Education from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of Washington, Richards has built a distinguished career blending teaching excellence with artistic achievement. In 2012, she received Tarrant County College's Chancellor's Award for Exemplary Teaching, honoring her impactful contributions to photography education. She has led student photography study abroad programs to Cuba and Europe, providing immersive cultural and artistic experiences that expand students' perspectives on global photography practices.
Richards' photographic oeuvre has garnered widespread recognition through numerous solo and group exhibitions. Solo shows include 'Scenes from Early Morn Drive' at The Photography Center Gallery in Seattle (1997), 'Playing the Game' at ArtCentre of Plano (1997), and 'Visual Memory' at Gallery 93 in Dallas (1994). Her group exhibitions encompass international venues such as Palazzo Albrizzi in Venice, Italy (2014) for 'Pixels of Identity'; the Berlin Biennale and European Month of Photography in Berlin, Germany (2016); the Royal Photographic Society International Print Exhibition #158 in London, England (2015); and multiple Tarrant County College faculty biennials and shows like 'Cuba, Unexpected,' 'Point of View,' and 'Photography Faculty Biennial.' In 1991, she was awarded the Mid-America Arts Alliance/National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Photography. Her works explore themes of identity, memory, and place, with pieces held in permanent collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin; and Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Through her exhibitions, awards, and mentorship, Richards has significantly influenced photography education and contemporary artistic discourse.
