Pamela St. Laurent serves as Instructor II and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education in the Department of Health Sciences, Marieb College of Health and Human Services, at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her academic background includes an Ed.D. in Healthcare Education with a minor in Adult Education from Nova Southeastern University (2012), an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida (2008), an M.S. in Health Science with a concentration in Health Professions Education from Florida Gulf Coast University (2005), and a B.S. in Medical Technology from Notre Dame College (1981). Before entering academia full-time, she accumulated 20 years of experience as a Microbiology Technologist in hospital laboratories, including roles at Diagnostic Services Incorporated Laboratories in Ft. Myers, FL (1998–2004) and University of Massachusetts/Memorial Healthcare System in Worcester, MA (1986–1998). At Florida Gulf Coast University, her career began in 2005 as an adjunct professor, Health Educator at Kleist Health Education Center, and Academic Support/Laboratory Manager in the College of Health Professions, transitioning to her current position in 2010.
In Health Science education, Dr. St. Laurent teaches courses such as Management and Leadership in Healthcare (IHS 3203), Diagnostic VMP (MLS 4462), Hematology/Hemostasis (MLS 4308), Diagnostic Microbiology (MLS 4404), Senior Seminar (IHS 4938), Research Methods in Healthcare (IHS 4504), and Clinical Immunology (MLS 4505). She has contributed to curriculum development, including new Parasitology components for VMP, practicum exams, and internship coordination for Clinical Laboratory Science students. Her scholarly activities include conference presentations at the Lucas Center Symposium (2019, "Teaching and Assessing Critical Thinking"), Curricula for the 21st Century (2018, 2013), and Healthcare Horizons and Opportunities Conference (2014, 2012, 2011). She received the Lucas Center Innovative Design Grant Award for QEP: Redesigning a Literature Review (2016) and holds lifetime memberships in Phi Kappa Phi and Delta Epsilon Iota honor societies. Professional affiliations encompass the American Society for Clinical Pathology (since 1986), American Society for Microbiology, and Florida Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. In 2025, she co-authored "The Exercise Science Practice Model: A Framework for Integrating Critical Thinking, Reflective Practice, and Professional Reasoning in Exercise Science Education" with Rob Sillevis in the International Journal of Higher Education. Dr. St. Laurent participates in university service through committees including Library (2012–present), MCHHS Faculty Council (2010–present), and Clinical Laboratory Sciences Advisory (2010–present).
