Pa Her is a Clinical Professor of Counseling Psychology in the Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Education. She serves as Director of the Counseling Psychology Training Clinic. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020, where her dissertation examined the influence of social status and racial discrimination on students of color’s self-regulated learning and persistence intentions. She also holds an M.S. in Counseling from the same institution in 2011, with a thesis on Hmong parents’ educational encouragement of their undergraduate children, and a B.S. in Human Development and Family Studies in 2008. Pa Her completed her clinical internship at the University of Minnesota and is a licensed psychologist. Since 2020, she has taught graduate courses including Helping Relationships and Techniques, Lifestyle and Career Development, Advanced Seminar in History and Systems of Psychology, and Clinical Psychology Practicum for master’s and doctoral students. She provides supervision and oversight for the training clinic.
Pa Her’s research integrates vocational psychology, cultural and family influences, and systemic equity issues to support the educational and career success of underrepresented college students, particularly first-generation, low-income students, and students of color. Her interests include students’ persistence intentions, work hope beliefs, internship experiences, and Hmong parents’ support roles, employing quantitative and qualitative methods. Recent expansions address mental health in the Southeast Asian American community. Clinically, she focuses on trauma-informed care for underrepresented students at predominantly white institutions.
