Dr. Norita Mohd Nasir is a Lecturer in Accounting and Deputy Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Malaysia School of Business, Monash University Malaysia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Management from Monash University in 2015, with a doctoral thesis entitled 'Islam and corporate environmentalism: The case of Shariah-compliant public listed firms in Malaysia.' Prior to this, she obtained a Master's degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Essex in 1994, focusing her research on 'Initial public offerings: The case of Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange.' She holds professional qualifications as a Chartered Accountant (CA, Malaysia) and Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA, Australia). Her academic career at Monash University Malaysia includes teaching key undergraduate units such as ACW1120 Financial Accounting 1, ACW2120 Financial Accounting 2, and ACW3120 Financial Accounting 3. Dr. Nasir is actively accepting PhD students and contributes to professional committees, including the Women in Business committee of CPA Australia (Malaysia).
Dr. Nasir's research specializations center on environmental sustainability, tertiary education, and financial reporting. Her work explores Shariah perspectives on sustainability, stakeholder influences on environmental stewardship, institutional isomorphism in environmental practices, voluntary disclosure and corporate governance in financially distressed firms, and the human element in cybersecurity management. Notable publications include 'Tackling the human element in cybersecurity management: a tale of a phishing attack on a Malaysian fashion company' (2025, co-authored with Siew Eu Gene, Saadiah Munir, and Puspavathy Rassiah); 'Sustainable environmental management practices: evidence from hotels in Malaysia' (2024, with Puspavathy Rassiah, Ravichandran Subramaniam, and Saleeth H. M.); 'Anti-Corruption: Implementing TRUST principles for business integrity competence' (2024, with Visveswara Mohan Avvari and others); 'Environmental sustainability and contemporary Islamic society: a Shariah perspective' (2022, with Mahendhiran Sanggaran Nair and Pervaiz K. Ahmed); 'Stakeholder salience and environmental stewardship among hotels in Malaysia' (2022); and 'Institutional isomorphism and environmental sustainability: a new framework from the Shariah perspective' (2021). She currently leads research projects such as 'Building a Greener Future: Advancing Green and Affordable Housing in Malaysia' (2025-2026) and 'Sustainability Impact: Case Studies of UNGCMYB Member Companies' (2025-2026), serving as Primary Chief Investigator alongside collaborators including Puspavathy Rassiah.
