Professor Noreen Heraty is Head of the Department of Work and Employment Studies at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick. She holds a Bachelor of Business Studies awarded in 1990 and a Master of Business Studies awarded in 1992, both from the University of Limerick. Her academic career at the University of Limerick spans over two decades, beginning as a Lecturer from December 2000, advancing to Senior Lecturer from April 2007, and currently serving as Professor in the Department of Work and Employment Studies. She primarily teaches Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour across a diverse range of undergraduate, graduate, professional, and executive programmes. Professor Heraty's research interests centre on the dynamics of age and ageism in the workplace, work values, post-retirement employment, generational issues in employment, employee retention and career development, workplace learning and development, and cross-national human resource management and development trends and issues. As co-director of the Age in the Workplace Research Network (AWR-net), she contributes significantly to advancing knowledge in these areas.
Professor Heraty has co-authored several leading textbooks on Human Resource Management, Organisational Behaviour, and Training and Development. Her research outputs total 127, encompassing 46 articles, 35 papers, 26 book chapters, and 14 books, with publications appearing in leading international peer-reviewed journals such as Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Managerial Psychology, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and International Studies in Management and Organization. Key publications include the edited book Comparative Human Resource Management: Contextual Insights from an International Research Collaboration (Routledge, 2021), the chapter 'Human resource development' in The Oxford Handbook of Contextual Approaches to Human Resource Management (Oxford University Press, 2021), and the article 'Home and host distal context and performance appraisal in multinational enterprises: A 22 country study' (Human Resource Management, 2021). Her contributions have earned her notable accolades, including the Regional Teaching Excellence Award (2021), national identification as a Teaching Hero (2021), shortlisting for the University of Limerick Excellence in Teaching Award (2015), Literati Club 1999 Award for Excellence and Highly Commended Award (1998), Citation of Excellence from ANBAR (1995), and the Irish American Partnership Scholarship (1990).
