Norah Mazel is the Director of Learning, Research, and Engagement and Assistant Professor at the Kraemer Family Library, University of Colorado Colorado Springs. She holds a BA and MLIS from the University of Arizona and an MPA from Arizona State University. In this capacity, she leads efforts in information literacy instruction, research support, and community engagement. Mazel serves as the departmental liaison for Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology, where she provides specialized assistance to faculty and students. She has developed comprehensive research guides for these fields, including 'Getting Started - Physics Research,' 'Getting Started - Chemistry Research,' 'Getting Started - Biology Research,' 'Getting Started - Mathematics Research,' and 'Psychology: Getting Started.' Additional guides cover 'Creating Author Profiles,' 'Research Posters Explained - Designing Research Posters,' 'Media to Deliver Research Findings,' and subject-specific resources like 'TCID 2080: Investigating Misleading Communication.'
Mazel's research interests center on information literacy amid technological advancements, particularly generative AI's impact on information access. Her peer-reviewed article, 'Generative AI and the Reinforcement of Information Privilege: Implications for Information Literacy Instruction,' appeared in Library Trends in 2025, analyzing how AI tools reinforce information disparities and offering pedagogical recommendations for library instruction. She has contributed to discussions on library services, including a presentation titled 'Welcome to the Kraemer Family Library' and involvement in transitioning library citation services. Mazel has a strong record of service in faculty governance, having served as Faculty Assembly Secretary from 2016 to 2017. She participates in key committees such as the Faculty Council Educational Policy and University Standards Committee, constitution revision task forces, and NTTF committees. Her contributions earned her the Faculty Assembly Service Award in 2024 and selection for the University of Colorado Excellence in Leadership Program cohort in 2017-2018. Through these roles, Mazel influences academic policy, supports non-tenure-track faculty, and fosters collaborative library initiatives at UCCS.
