Associate Professor Nevein Botross serves in the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia, specializing in internal medicine with a focus on neurology. She earned her MB BCh with honours from Cairo University in 1991 and an MSc in Internal Medicine from the same institution in 2000. Her professional journey began in Egypt as a pre-registration house officer at Cairo University Hospitals from 1992 to 1993, followed by senior house officer positions in medicine, cardiology, and intensive care at Coptic Hospital and the Ministry of Health Egypt until 1997. She advanced to medical specialist roles at Om El-Nour Medical Centre and the Ministry of Health Egypt from 1997 to 2004. In 2004, she relocated to Malaysia as a specialized physician at Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru, managing medical wards, a neuromedical clinic, and on-call duties until 2011. Since October 2011, she has been affiliated with Monash University Malaysia's Johor Bahru Clinical School, starting as a senior lecturer in internal medicine and providing consultant physician services at Hospital Sultanah Aminah. She now holds the position of Associate Professor (Education Focused), contributing to clinical education and services.
Botross's research interests center on neurology, including multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and diabetic microvascular complications. Key publications include chapters on Epilepsy (2025), Parkinson’s Disease (2025), and Stroke (2025) in Screen, Diagnose, Manage and Monitor: A GP Primer to Common Clinical Conditions (Springer); Appendectomy and asthma: a search for an association in older subjects (Medical Journal of Malaysia, 2024); Efficacy and safety of vagus nerve stimulation in stroke rehabilitation (Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2023); Chronic neuronopathic type of Gaucher’s disease with progressive myoclonic epilepsy (Scottish Medical Journal, 2014); and studies on health-related quality of life in breast cancer survivors (Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention, 2015 and 2018). She has co-authored on acute disseminated encephalomyelitis complicating dengue (Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders, 2016) and acquired haemophilia (American Journal of Case Reports, 2018). Awards include the Pro-Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Academic Service (2012), Best Poster Award at PACTRIMS Congress (2017), and a prize in Internal Medicine (1991). In teaching, she has coordinated Year 3, supervised Year 5 students, chaired assessments, and organized the Annual Johor Neuromedical Update. She participates in projects such as the tocotrienol-rich vitamin E trial for diabetic complications (2023-2027).
